Do not focus so much on what the guitar is made of. Concentrate on how it SOUNDS. There are so many different variations on woods that it really just becomes a matter of what sounds best to your ears. A dreadnought size would probably be best for projection and bass response. There are many great manufacturers in the price range you are seeking. Your best bet is to go to several music stores that have a large selection of acoustics guitars and try them all!
